In this PDF ebooklet I take you through the method I use to create a bespoke leather glove pattern. I will be using lamb nappa to make my glove.
We start by taking your measurements, tracing your hand and then building the three key elements within the glove pattern, the trank, the thumb piece and the fourchette (the piece that sits down the sides of the fingers). This pattern uses a simple fourchette, based on the measurements for the longest finger.
We normally draft a pattern to fit the larger hand and then flip the pattern for the other hand. You can make a pattern for each hand if you wish.
It is always difficult to get the exact fit when drafting any pattern for the first time. I always advise making a mock up based on the measurements for the larger hand to check for fit and then adapting your pattern accordingly. Be sure to take your measurements carefully and ensure that you draft a pattern that looks balanced for the glove.
You can use this method to make glove patterns for yourself and for others. The world is your oyster.
